With a Ph.D. in Information Science combined
with undergraduate degrees in Geology and General Science, Jeff Campbell
brings both information systems and scientific expertise to his
environmental informatics projects.
Jeff is also an expert in human-computer interaction - making computer systems
easier to use and more effective in communicating information. His research
includes techniques to improve usability and to support remote collaboration. In
particular, support for citizen scientist volunteers is a key area of interest.
With database design and systems analysis
experience spanning 25 years, Jeff's
consulting has ranged from small companies and non-profits to large corporations. He has
taught courses in database and systems analysis at several universities.
Jeff is involved with numerous environmental organizations in the Baltimore-Washington area. He serves as an appointed member of his local watershed advisory committee and on the Scientific Advisory Board for an environmental research area. He is the chair-elect of the Maryland Water Monitoring Council Data Management Committee. He is one of the top fifty most active observers in the country for Frogwatch USA.

(4/29/09) Jeff appeared in two segments of the Maryland Public Television Bay Week Volunteer-A-Thon on April 26 that highlighted the work of several organizations. Jeff was in the background of the National Aquarium segment and appeared more frequently in the Jug Bay segment. There were sound bites from several of the UMBC Students for Environmental Awareness members who were at Jug Bay that day. Jeff is their advisor.
